It takes power to pivot into the the life that you truly want. The power of the pivot is choice, the power of the pivot opens up new doors, the power of the pivot is a renewed sense of joy!
It’s been quit some time since I last shared in this space. I am happy to return here and share more reflections I’ve had over the last year of my life. The most recent being the power of the pivot. The power of the pivot is a new beginning where you can recommit to what you want in life and make a plan to work towards that new path. It is not my first time pivoting in such a way, just like the last this one felt extremely necessary for me to take. I had to decide if conforming to “what I should be doing” was worth the energy, when I knew I wanted to take my life in a new and more aligned direction.
Doing so took not only courage but faith, faith to push me through from leaving one chapter and starting another. Blank pages laid ahead of me, waiting to be written. Making the final choice to step into this pivot is what gave me the power to see it through. Now I am a working artist, living the life I’ve imagined for years now. A risk well worth the taking, I realized there’s no better time than the present to see what I can make out of what I’ve been given; time and lots of it.
In 2024 I worked a lot, did a lot of creating for other people. If you are an artist in any regard you can imagine how stifling this was to my own creative practice. This is what pushed me to pivot. I learned that “no” is a complete sentence and to stop biting off more than I can chew when it comes to life, working and relationships. It really is ok to say no. A hard lesson I learned was that I can’t pour from an empty cup, giving energy before I’d cultivated it for myself was draining. I realized that the expectations of others didn’t have to hold me where I no longer wished to be. Especially when this way of being began to take away from doing the things I loved; journaling/sharing on this blog/creating art/recording my podcast. I got caught up in doing too much working instead of pouring into my own pots in a balanced way.
All of this to say is if you have found yourself at a point of no return in your career or any other aspect of your life, it is time to pivot! It is ok to start fresh and change course, even if you haven’t ventured into this new path before.
Tips for pivoting
-be honest with yourself, what do you actually want out of life? Does your life currently cater to these desires? practice self-reflection
– Remember that It is ok to be selfish, how can you give anything if you don’t first give to yourself?
– boundaries boundaries boundaries, set boundaries for yourself and with others in your life
– there is nothing wrong with starting over and learning new things, even if you’ve been working at something for awhile
-if it stresses you out, leave it alone. No stress is worth the time you’ll never get back. Give your energy to what lifts you up not what brings you down
– follow your gut and do what you feel called to do in life, do so with confidence and intention
-seek support from your community
-Be gentle with yourself, change takes a lot. Celebrate the small wins along the way
